How To Control Panic Attacks - Controlling Panic Attacks By Understanding Them
The first important step to controlling panic attacks, is to understand what they really are.
However, even before that, an even more important question that most have is:
Am I Suffering From Panic Attacks?
If that is your big question, then READ THIS FIRST!
If you already know that you are, then continue reading below!
Panic attacks are a good things gone wrong. Let me explain:
Think carefully to what happens when you slip on an wet floor. Your body immediately goes into overdrive - the heart pumps harder and faster, the pulse goes up, the blood rushes to different parts of the body, and you quickly do all you can regain your balance. In this case, you experience an alarming situation, and your body reacts by doing all it can to get you balanced. The exact same thing happens during a panic attack…except that the brain has no idea what it’s reacting against! And of course, the body’s response is a few times more intense than just slipping on the floor.
After the first few seconds, your brain begins searching for anything that might be the cause of the panic and the alarming reaction of the nervous system. It is during this time that one begins to experience inner dialogue, and a review of bad memories. The sudden burst of energy is undirected, and may result in shivering and/or trembling. If this continues for longer than a few minutes, one begins to think they are going crazy or dying. It all makes logical sense, but that doesn’t make it any less intense or scary.
Most of the treatment options today, as noted below, attempt to calm the body down when it is not in a panic attack. The idea is that by promoting calm ideas when not experiencing a panic attack, somehow panic attacks themselves will be softer and easier to deal with. This is nonsense and has no grounding in reality at all. During an attack, a completely different part of brain is active as compared to ‘calm’ stages, which is why most of the treatments fail.
On the other hand, the One Move technique, the way it is taught in the Panic Away Method, targets this abnormal brain activity and calms it - immediately ending the panic attack. The continuing steps in Panic Away Method eliminate the anxiety and fear that are at the roots of the panic attack in the first place.
